(EN) GP2 Series 2015 - Round 5 Preview

Presentation about 5th round of GP2 Series

GP2 Series this weekend rolling back this time takes place at Silverstone, England. The 5.891 km circuit is known to have a fast and challenging character.

This circuit has two speed trap precisely after the Wellington straight and Hangar straight, so the drivers are required to be extra careful when braking before bends after passing through the straight track. One part of the famous in this circuit is a combination of high-speed corners of Maggots and Becketts. This section also becomes crucial because the rider can control the terrain very well have a chance to overtake an opponent in a straight line Hangar Straight which this year became one of the activation zone DRS (Drag Reduction System).

Stoffel Vandoorne is still the man to beat for the race this weekend, given the Belgium driver clean sweep of victories in all the feature race so far, but certainly the most anticipated battle for 2nd place driver standings because Alexander Rossi and Rio Haryanto only separated 9 points. Once the American off guard, his teammate while still in Caterham last season it was ready to pry his position in the driver standings.

-Warm Up-

Jordan King (Great Britain/Racing Engineering)

“I’ve been driving at the circuit for the past four or five years and it’s one that has a bit of everything: fast and slow corners. The new parts are quite tight and twisty. I think overtaking will be interesting because you will have some tyre management issues if you’re stuck behind cars through the fast corners, and then you have the slow corners to overtake people.
“In the first section, you need to get yourself into a rhythm and once you’ve gotten through it, you need to carry the momentum through the second sector otherwise you may lose time. It’s a fast flowing circuit, but you need to get your first sector quite strong to be able to carry your speed over the lap.
“It’s my home Grand Prix so it’s quite a special round for me. I’ve been to the F1 weekends for the past six years. This year I’ll be driving instead of being in the grandstands which I’m really looking forward too.”
