Sixth Gear - Berlokasi di tengah hutan Ardennes, sirkuit Spa Francorchamps mungkin sirkuit terindah dalam kalender F1. Itu karena pemandangan alamnya yang indah. Namun sirkuit ini memiliki kesulitan yang cukup tinggi dan berbahaya. Sehingga cukup menyeramkan namun sekaligus menantang bagi pembalap. 

Spa Francorchamps merupakan sirkuit terpanjang di balapan F1. Panjang lintasannya mencapai 6.973 meter dengan tikungannya berjumlah 21. Yang membuat sirkuit ini ditakuti adalah konturnya yang naik turun. Padahal lintasan balap ini memiliki karakter high speed. 
Selain itu, karakter cuaca di areal hutan Ardennes juga cenderung berubah lebih cepat dari pada perkiraan. Seringkali terjadi hujan deras namun sebagian treknya kering dan matahari bersinar cerah. Ini memang sering terjadi di trek yang memiliki lintasan panjang. Namun Spa Francorchamps adalah yang paling sulit diprediksi diantara yang lainnya. 

Selain cuaca, ada 2 tikungan yang cukup berbahaya untuk dilintasi. Yang pertama adalah La Source, tikungan hairpin yang menyambut setelah mobil melaju kencang. Yang kedua adalah Eau Rouge, yang merupakan kombinasi 3 tikungan kiri-kanan-kiri. Yang membuatnya berbahaya adalah perbedaan ketinggian, membuat blind spot di kombinasi 3 tikungan ini. 

Berikut pendapat Fernando Alonso mengenai Eau Rouge, "You come into the corner downhill, have a sudden change [of direction] at the bottom and then go very steep uphill. From the cockpit, you cannot see the exit and as you come over the crest, you don't know where you will land. It is a crucial corner for the timed lap, and also in the race, because you have a long uphill straight afterwards where you can lose a lot of time if you make a mistake. But it is also an important corner for the driver's feeling. It makes a special impression every lap, because you also have a compression in your body as you go through the bottom of the corner. It is very strange – but good fun as well"

Pendapat Julian Leal (Kolombia/Carlin), “Spa-Francorchamps is an amazing track. If you ask the drivers which is their favourite circuit, Spa will be at the top of the list. It’s very challenging of course. When you think of Spa-Francorchamps, you think of Eau Rouge. You have to be flat-out there… It is a very fast and long track. There are a lot of overtaking opportunities: after Eau Rouge, on the main straight and on the back straight. If you have the right speed, you can have a lot of fun.

“If you are quick in free practice, you should be getting a good result in qualifying. You have to focus to be flat-out through Eau Rouge and to maximise the potential of your tyres. You have to warm them up well. The tyre degradation is not too bad because there are a lot of straights so the tyres have the time to cool down.”
