Lay-out of Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain.
Presentation
about 2nd round of GP2 Series 2015
After
first round in Sakhir, Bahrain which the race event was action-packed and lot
of surprise, GP2 Series 2015 starts in Europe with the 2nd round which tae
place in Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain this weekend.
With 4,655
kilometers long, this circuit have an unique character because on the first
half of circuit, there are some fast and long corners so it will be a lot of
overtaking between drivers whom usualy aggresive at fast corner. Meanwhile,
second half of circuit dominated with slow corners, so driver who skiled at
late braking, will be able to overtake their rivals at this point.
A
medium-character circuit with some fast and long corners, makes this circuit
suitable for testing car’s aerodynamic. Mechanic should set the car in
high-downforce setting so drivers can reach optimum point while passing that
corner. DRS activation zone available at home straight and back straight
(between Campsa corner/T9 and La Caixa corner/T10) so n those place will be
helpful for drivers who need backup in order to overtake their rivals.
Warm Up - Alex Lynn (Great Britain/DAMS)
“I have
always loved this track. It’s got a great flow and it always lends itself to a
nicely balanced car. A lot of it is high speed and if the car has a good
down-force you’re usually fast.
“I always
find the last sector to be really important because it’s really slow speed and
you need to have the tyres still alive for it on a qualifying lap. It’s so
tight and twisty, especially in a GP2 car with big power, you need to have the
traction in the last chicane and the corner before that. It’s where I think you
find a big laptime gain. You can be a little bit off in the first two sectors,
but then if you can put a massive last sector, you can make a big time gap to
everybody.
“Regarding
the tyre degradation, it will be high but not as aggressive and extreme as in
Bahrain. It’s still high though. It will be a big factor and tyre management
will be key as always. I’m really hoping for a good result there. It will be
another interesting race like we saw in Bahrain.”
